Constable in custody on suspicion of stealing cars

Chad Bryan, Star Writer

A police constable from St Thomas has been taken into custody by the Portland police on suspicion of stealing motor vehicles.

Superintendent of Police for the Portland Division, Wayne Cameron, said the constable, who it is being alleged is the mastermind of a motor vehicle stealing ring, was taken into custody on Wednesday.

Superintendent Cameron said that the constable has not been charged but could be slapped with larceny of motor vehicle charges following a ruling from the director of public prosecution.

It is being alleged that the constable is suspected to have links to the theft of a station wagon motor vehicle recently. However, that vehicle was recovered on Monday.

He is also being alleged to be linked to motor vehicle thefts in Portland. It is alleged that other persons operating in a garage are believed to be involved in the cases as well.
