The Rock's family hit by drunk driver

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson

Dwayne Johnson's mother and cousin were hit by a drunk driver.

The Hercules actor has confirmed that his two family members survived the collision and admitted that while it is tempting to retaliate with "unrelenting harm", he is looking to move past it.

He wrote on Instagram: "My mom & cousin @linafanene were struck head-on by a drunk driver this week - they lived. First reaction is to find the person who did this and do unrelenting harm to them.

"But then you realise the most important thing is my family lived thru this and we can hug each other that much tighter these days."

Meanwhile, Dwayne - who is also known by his wrestling name 'The Rock' - has urged his fans to use the accident as a reminder to embrace their "own family tighter" and be thankful for every moment with them.

He continued: "Hug your own family tighter today and be grateful you can tell them you love them.

The star has opened up about his love for mother, and has revealed that the moment they were evicted from their home was the inspiration behind him transforming his physique.

He previously said: "We were living in an efficiency that cost $120 a week. We come home, and there's a padlock on the door and an eviction notice. My mom starts bawling. She just started crying and breaking down. 'Where are we going to live? What are we going to do?' That was the tipping point. It was about, 'What can I control with these two hands?' The only thing I could do was train and build my body. The successful men I knew were men who built their bodies."
