1,751lbs of compressed ganja seized at Kingston Wharves

Members attached to the Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division (TCND) and the Jamaica Customs' Contraband Enforcement Team seized a large quantity of compressed ganja at the Kingston Wharves, Port Bustamante in Kingston, on Monday.

Reports from the TCND are that about 9 a.m., during a search of a container at the wharves, approximately 1,751lbs (794.24 kg) of ganja wrapped in 370 parcels were found among household effects. The drug is estimated at a street value of over $6m Jamaican dollars.

The container, which arrived in Kingston from Indonesia, was scheduled to depart Port Bustamante on Monday and was destined for Suriname.

This seizure follows the seizure of approximately 910.69 lbs (413 kg) of compressed ganja with an estimated street value of more than J$3m at the Kingston Container Terminal, Port Bustamante, on August 3. No arrest was made in relation to the seizures.
