Bail extended for men accused of stealing diesel

Two St Catherine men accused of stealing a large quantity of diesel fuel from a bauxite company had their bail extended when they appeared in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

They are Mario Small, a contractor, and Romaine Anderson, both of Linstead, St Catherine.

The accused were told the matter will be tried on May 21 next year.

When the matter came up before Resident Magistrate Suzette Brooks, the men has their bails extended.

Allegations are that on March 31, 2013, Anderson, who worked as a security guard at the Windalco mines in St Catherine, conspired with Small to steal fuel from the company. Security personnel set up a sting operation, in March, that led them to Rosehall district in St Catherine. Small was held off- loading drums of diesel oil to other persons.

He was taken into custody. Following intensive investigations, Anderson was also taken into custody. The men were later charged by the police with larceny.

They have made numerous court appearances and have maintained their innocence throughout.
