A Jamaican national living in Belize accused of murder was remanded in custody when he appeared before a Chief Magistrate in the country recently.

Charged with murder is 32-year-old Mark Dwayne Dallas.

According to www.channel5belize.com, Dallas was implicated in the murder of 38-year-old Oscar Rubio following an alleged beating in which he sustained injuries to the head during a fight. Police reportedly took Rubio to hospital thereafter, where he succumbed to his injuries. Subsequently, Dallas was arrested and charged by Belizean authorities.

It is believed that Dallas, who has reportedly resided in Belize for 22 years, described himself as "demon-possessed", sick and poor.

The accused man was ordered remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until October 2.
