Ginjah to host back- to-school treats

Reggae artiste Ginjah is a firm believer in philanthropy.

The soft-spoken singer who originally hails from St James, is preparing for the staging of two back-to-school treats.

The first, dubbed the seventh annual Montpelier Back-to-School Fest, took place on Saturday at Montpelier Church Gate in Montpelier, St James.

"We have been doing this treat for a while now, it's a joint effort between me and Youth & Youth Promotions in Montpelier. A lot of people don't know but I am originally from St James, so I have to give back something to youths in the area where I am from," said Ginjah.

All the children in attendance received food and refreshments along with back-to-school supplies including exercise books, pencils and sharpeners.

There was also live entertainment as a number of artistes performed in the night including Ginjah, Power Man, Danny English, I-Noah, Dre Black, Young Son, Sashi, Fire 5 and Vybz Acid.

The other treat will take place on Saturday at Gilby's Block factory in the Zambia area of Central Village in Spanish Town where Ginjah grew up.

"The second treat will be in Zambia, this is the community where I grew up when I moved to live in Spanish Town when I was a little youth. This event will be similar to the one in Montpelier, we will have giveaways and entertainment for the children. The youth are the future and we have to do all we can do to help them to grow up to be brilliant young men and women," said the artiste.
