No bail for inmates on assault rap

Two inmates who are accused of assaulting a prison warden on duty while they were being housed at the Horizon Adult Remand Centre on Spanish Town Road, Kingston, were further remanded when they appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm is 23-year-old chef Roshane Hamilton of a Portmore, St Catherine, address, and 33-year-old electrician Rohan Masters of a downtown Kingston address.

Allegations are that on March 14, at 1 a.m., the complainant, who is a prison warden, was on duty at the correctional facility when the two inmates attacked him.

He was reportedly punched and beaten with a baton all over his body by both accused. The alleged beating resulted in the complainant suffering swelling and scratches to his arms and back.

Subsequently, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered both men further remanded in custody. They are to return to court on October 15 for a mention hearing.
