Koffee’s historic Grammy ‘ketch di Reggae Month riddim’

Hard on the heels of the start of the annual Reggae Month celebrations, the Entertainment Advisory Board (EAB) has hailed Koffee for giving reggae lovers across the island even more to celebrate, as she became the first solo female and youngest person to win the genre's Grammy award last Sunday.

"This history-making Grammy win, the development of the Reggae Month App which showcases over 65 events, and the mounting of the famous 'Jamaica Jamaica' Music Exhibition have put reggae lovers globally in high anticipation of the 2020 staging of Reggae Month," commented EAB chairman, Howard McIntosh. "We fully endorse all the activities of the month, we applaud the work of the Reggae Month Secretariat and the ministries of culture and tourism in ensuring that the 'reggae riddim' is spread across the island, which is seen in the scores of new community events that are included in this year's activities."

He pointed out that February 2020, though having 29 days, will this year have 30 days of reggae celebration with March 1 being the conclusion of activities on the calendar.

"As Koffee mentioned in her acceptance speech, this celebration ' ... is for reggae ... this one is for Jamaica", and as such, from concerts to symposia and awards ceremonies, the month has been holistically curated to include events for diverse audiences to enjoy aspects of our rich culture that continues to be the heartbeat of the world," McIntosh said.

Reggae Month 2020 is being celebrated under the theme 'Ketch di Riddim'.
