Dancehall artiste Lisa Hyper has been having an eventful 2020. She is about to drop her second album this month and is also working on a follow-up offering, a full-length reggae album, collaborating with some of the best singers in the genre.

Amid speculation that she is pregnant with her first child, the self-proclaimed 'matriarch' of the dancehall would neither confirm nor deny.

She instead told THE STAR that her blessings are multiplying and she is excited at what the future holds.

"I can't complain, this has been a great year for me. I have been very busy with several music projects, which include singles and music videos. My album The Phoenix drops this month. It is produced by me and Vybz Kartel and I also have a collab with him on it," Lisa Hyper said. Other collaborators include Sikka Rhymes, Dexta Daps and Chronic Law. The Phoenix will be released on her own Matriarch Global label.

Her other album project, Matriarch, will feature reggae singers including Sanchez, Beres Hammond, Queen Ifrica and Ikaya.

A slew of singles

"I chose them because they are the best of the best. I am working with people I literally love listening to every day. I have been listening to Sanchez and Beres Hammond for a long time. Ikaya has a soul and all this comes out in her music, and Ifrica is the queen," Lisa Hyper explained.

She pointed out that although her last album was in 2012, the John 2 -produced Destiny, she has released two mix tapes, EPs and a slew of singles in between.

Among her most recent songs are 21 Bad Gal, Loyalty, Pretty Butterfly, a collab with Kartel, and Phoenix, the lead from the album, which sees her collaborating with Chronic Law. She has done video shoots for several of the songs.

Just last week, Lisa Hyper made a public apology, via Instagram, to the self-proclaimed 'Queen of the Dancehall', Spice. The two had not spoken for 12 years.

Then last Friday, during a televised interview, she offered another apology, this time on behalf of Kartel.

"I want to apologise for my boss too, everyone in society that he has rubbed the wrong way. He doesn't know that I'm doing this. I want to do that for him, I need him to come home," she said.

Kartel and Lisa Hyper have had a long history, with her being one of his protegees from the days of his Portmore Empire outfit.
