Alkaline takes Top Prize
Internationally acclaimed recording artiste Alkaline has been proclaimed by his publicist, Shuzzr, to be the "most successful independent artiste to have emerged from the genre he represents".
Shuzzr made the bold claim following the Champion Boy hitmaker's smashing success with his latest project, Top Prize, a 14-track album that hits digital stores on May 14.
Within the first hour of its release globally, Top Prize landed at the No. 1 spot on the iTunes reggae charts and peaked at No. 6 on the worldwide charts, sharing the top 10 with the likes of J Cole and Nicki Minaj who occupied the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively.
On the Canadian iTunes charts, it debuted at No. 7 and secured the No. 1 spot on the Apple music charts in Jamaica. The album then went on to being the No. 1 on Apple music reggae album charts worldwide. It is currently at No. 8 on the US iTunes chart. The album also debuted at No. 28 on the United Kingdom iTunes chart.
"The artiste has spoken, the album in entirety addresses any questions critics may have. The Vendetta fans love it, and the impressive 24-hour debut speaks to that," Shuzzr said.
"The project demonstrates his level of artistry, growth, and dominance. Top Prize caters to his global audience and the numbers in terms of actual unit sales and streams echoes that. As an independent artiste, Alkaline continues to break barriers globally and expand the genre's footprint in mainstream and new media markets. The best is yet to come," Shuzzr added.
On YouTube, 10 of the 14 tracks have already amassed more than 3 million views collectively, and have been trending on the popular streaming platform in approximately 20 countries, Shuzzr said.
Alkaline recently made history as the first Caribbean act to be featured on streaming platform Audiomack's Acoustic visual series. His album has been labelled by the platform "as one of the albums you need to hear this week".
