Label hopes to win souls with gospel compilation
Praising the Lord dancehall style is the focus of the Touched by An Angel Riddim -- The Deuce, a 15-song compilation album released in February by Portmore-based Basco House Production.
It features some of the leading names in contemporary Jamaican gospel. Deejay Jimmy Fagan, who started the company in 2005 with his wife Una, hopes the message in the songs will win new converts to Christianity.
"There are some powerful testimonies here. We at Basco House don't believe in just making songs, we want to make an impact," he said.
The Deuce is the follow-up to the original Touched by An Angel Riddim compilation which came out in 2022. Seven of the artistes on that set, including Fagan and Kevin Smith, return for a second serving.
Fagan's song on the album is Same Boat, while Smith does Miracles. Goddy Goddy ( Protect Me), Stefan Peninsilyn ( Satan Get Haunted), Sone G ( Unusual Praise) and Rian Davis ( Full A God) are some of the other acts on The Deuce.
Part proceeds from the albums will benefit the needy. Fagan and his team donated funds to Food For The Poor in 2021 and 2022. In February, they also made a monetary donation to the Salvation Army.
"We're serving God, so we believe in giving back. We want to move with the Spirit," said Fagan.
