A man who sold a house which he did not own was ordered to pay $100,000 or spend six months in prison when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Rodrick Samuels of Gordon Town, St Andrew, pleaded guilty to the charge of obtaining money by false pretence.

Allegations are that in September, the accused man sold a one-bedroom concrete structure for $70,000 to the complainant. However, the accused had already sold the same house to another person for $55,000 two years prior.

When asked by Senior RM Judith Pusey why he should not go to prison for his act, he said, "I have an eight-year-old son going to school and I'm sorry for what I did."

Pusey said having children was no reason for him not to serve time for his offence.
