Mother and teen son arrested following attempt to extort cops
A teenage boy who can be heard in a viral video on social media demanding the release of a prisoner, as well as JM$ 2 million from the police has been arrested.
The threats were made against the Freeport Police in St. James.
The teen and his mother have since been arrested following an investigation led by the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (CTOC) of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), into the threats made over the phone on Friday, April 9.
The threatening phone call was captured on video and has been widely shared via social media.
The police have used the opportunity to remind the public that actions such as these, force the JCF to utilise resources that could be channeled towards citizen safety.
In addition, such actions have serious implications and persons can be charged.
Persons are also being reminded to be selective with what they choose to share on social media.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
