Lucky No. 14 keeps showing up in winning Super Lotto jackpots
If you believe in numerology then you may want to take interest in the number 14 when deciding the six number for your Super Lotto ticket this weekend.
The Super Lotto jackpot prize is now at a historic $514 million. This is the first time the jackpot has climbed beyond half a billion dollars.
Interestingly, the number 14 was drawn on the last three jackpots that were hit in Jamaica. The winning numbers were 8, 14, 24, 32, 34, and (super ball) 4 the last time the jackpot was won. This was in August 2021 when one lucky person walked away with $305 million.
The number 14 also figured in the previous winning jackpot when $301.5 million was won. Then, in December 2020, the winning numbers were 3, 14, 25, 33, 35 and (super ball) 2.
In March 2020, when the jackpot of $222.5 million was won, the winning numbers were 3, 5, 13, 14, 25 and (super ball) 6.
Numerology is the study of the mystical relationship between numbers, letters and patterns, often used to decode other-earthly messages about self and the world at large.
Veteran journalist and cultural commentator Lloyd B Smith told THE WEEKEND STAR that he would not be surprised if people view the coincidence of the No. 14 as a big 'rake'.
"Numbers are extremely significant because apart from the superstition side, where you know people see certain numbers representing certain negative trends such as 13 and so on," Smith said.
"Some are related to scripture, others are related to necromancy or what we call obeah, and some persons also just have an affectation for certain numbers, which they regard as their lucky number. It could be their birthday or their mother's birthday or their child's birthday or a special day when something did happen or that sort of thing. So numbers do matter and Jamaicans are very obsessed. I think with numbers, we see it played out in the various betting activities every day," he added.
To win the Super Lotto players must choose five numbers from a field of one to 35 and a Super Ball number from a field of one to 10. If the players' numbers match the randomly selected numbers during the draw, they have won.
Super Lotto draws take place every Tuesday and Friday at 8:30 p.m.
Xesus Johnston, CEO of Supreme Ventures Gaming, said his organisation takes "great pride in providing our players with opportunities to win big and realise their dreams".
"This unprecedented $514 million jackpot offers an incredible opportunity for a lucky player to completely change their life forever," Johnston said.
