Politician in sex tape says he’s the victim
Councillor for the York Town Division in the Clarendon Municipal Corporation, Uphel Purcell, says he is the victim of cybercrime after a sex tape with him as co-star was leaked on social media.
The 64-second footage, which is a recording from a video call, shows the councillor pleasuring and positioning himself for the other person on the video call. An emoji was used to conceal the identity of the other party on the video call.
Purcell, who has been a councillor since 1998, said that the other party is an adult female. He said that he is the victim of the leaked tape.
"The fact of the matter is that is an engagement between me and a woman and the woman tek harself out of it and leak the tape. The woman tek harself out of it suh nuhbady nuh know seh a she," Purcell said.
The People's National Party (PNP) member said that he has since reported the matter to the police's cybercrime unit.
In the meantime, persons within the PNP have been pushing for Purcell to step away from his position as councillor. He told THE STAR that he "cannot say" as yet whether he will resign his position as a result of the leaked sex tape.
The PNP's constituency committee in Clarendon South West, where Purcell's division is located, said the video "does not represent our ideals and morals".
