JPS working to restore power in East Portland
Workers from the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) are currently working to restore power to sections of Eastern Portland after a utility pole caught fire and collapsed on Thursday.
The STAR Online team spoke with a residents who said they are nervous the incident might have caused damaged to their electrical appliances.
"Right now people a fret say some a dem electrical appliances might get damage due to the blue flame that was on the JPS wire. A longtime di pole lean and a drop down, but nobody don't pay it any attention, " Zion Hill resident Carlene Thompson said.
According to Thompson, following the collapse of the utility pole, power lines became entangled resulting in a fire and that popping sounds were heard along other poles, which sent some residents scampering for cover.
"A longtime di pole lean and a drop down, but nobody don't pay it any attention. Dat pole coulda drop pon somebody or a passing vehicle and dat would be like death in di area, " Thompson added.
