Waterhouse’s Fletcher sets sights on Golden Boot
Waterhouse's star striker Andre Fletcher is eyeing this year's Jamaica Premier League (JPL) Golden Boot award.
The 22-year-old netted a double against the Arnett Gardens last Friday to move his tally of goals to five for the season as Waterhouse won the game 4-1.
He is joint second on the goalscorers table with Humble Lion's Andre Vanzie. Harbour View's Oquassa Chong leads the standings with six goals. "As the main striker for the team, my aim is to win the Golden Boot because this will be a massive boost for my career," said Fletcher, who was one of the top goal-getters for Dinthill Technical High during the 2017 daCosta Cup season.
"I am now one goal behind the leader and I know that once I continue to work hard and stay focused on my game, I know that I can win it," he said.
"For me to be the STAR Balla of the Week is great because I have been putting in a lot of work. I knew that I would have won this award due to the work on the training pitch and in games, and so I just want to thank God for this," Fletcher.
Waterhouse are currently joint third in the standings with 13 points, along with the likes of defending champions Portmore United, Tivoli Gardens and Dunbeholden as the team continues to vie for a place in the play-offs competition.
In fact, with three rounds of matches remaining in the preliminary round of the competition, only two points separate first-place Vere United from eighth-place side Harbour View in the standings.
Fletcher added that the team is aware that they still have a lot of work to do and, therefore, they are all committed to doing whatever they can to get into the last six of the competition.
"We are not safe as yet in the play-offs because we still need to win our remaining matches and continue to work hard. Once we do this then we should be there," he said. "We are definitely confident that we can win the league because we are ready for it," Fletcher said.
