Fowler over the moon after copping Suncorp netball award

National senior netball captain Jhaniele Fowler says she is delighted and humbled by her achievement after she created history in the Australian Suncorp Super Netball League by becoming the first player to win the Player of the Year for four consecutive seasons.

The award was announced on Wednesday night and the 32-year-old goal shooter,, who represents the West Coast Fever in the competition, now rates herself as the 'best netballer in the world'.

"This is definitely a massive achievement because I don't think any other netballer has ever won four straight Player of the Year awards," said Fowler.

"For me to be the first, it is an achievement that I think should be recognised not only in Australia, but also in my country because I also represent my country wherever I play," she said.

"I am beyond honoured and humbled by it because there are so many great athletes in the league. With each week the intensity and the pressure is very great and so anyone could have won this and for me to win it four times in a row, I am overjoyed by it," Fowler said.

Fowler, who recently represented the Sunshine Girls in their three-Test Series in England, dominated the scoring charts in the Suncorp League last season, with a league leading 883 goals in the competition.

Her national teammates Shimona Nelson with 614 goals and Romelda Aiken, 531 goals, finished second and fourth, respectively, in the scoring chart.

Fowler who has made more than 50 appearances of the Sunshine Girls, pointed out that she is looking forward to another great year in 2022.

"I am always shying away from being called the best netball player in the world, but I am going to wear this crown with pride that I am the best netballer in the world," she said.

"It also feels really good to know that all my hard work has been paying off and everything that I stand for has been paying off as well," Fowler said.

"Next year is going to be a big season for me because we have the Commonwealth Games and I would love to represent my country and perform well there," she said.
