My girlfriend could be my granddaughter
I am 65 years old and I have been listening to you on the radio. I like your show but I can't get through to you. I read your column every day and I see how you have answered the questions people have asked you. I couldn't manage that kind of work, although I have dealt with young people all my life as a teacher.
I have never been married but I have had lots of girlfriends. I came close to marrying one of them, but I changed my mind when I realised that she was having a secret relationship with a man I knew very well. He lives in New York. He came to Jamaica and married her, and it was after they got married I found out.
I found out where the marriage took place and the Registrar General's Department confirmed it. I would love to settle down in my church. I now have two girlfriends, one is 50 years old and the other is 23 years old, but the 50-year-old one doesn't live in Jamaica. She was married before but got divorced. She wants to get married again, and has told me that she would live in Jamaica sometimes, but I would have to go and live in Florida some of the months of the year. She said that I would like it there.
My young girlfriend could be my granddaughter. She is so young but she is smart and she makes me feel young. She comes and stays with me sometimes. She swears that she doesn't have a boyfriend and I am the only man in her life. I told her I am too old for her and everytime I say it, she says age is just a number. I went to America over a year ago and stayed with my girlfriend there. I can live cheaper there at this woman's house, but I don't like the idea. I don't know what to do. I just have fun with the young girl in Jamaica but I want to settle down. I want your advice.
I am sorry that you have tried to reach me on the Dear Pastor show but I am glad that you have written to me. I am going to tell you straight how I feel about the relationship you are having with this young woman. Please end that relationship. This girl is going to ruin you. I do not believe that she is with you because she loves you. You are a feeding tree. She is going to nyam you out, so do not encourage that girl in your life. You are retired and you need your pension money to help you pay your medical bills, etc.
The older woman does not want to live in Jamaica permanently, so you may have a problem there also. She has promised to live half of the year in America and half in Jamaica; that is still better than having a young girl in Jamaica digging out every cent you have. The final decision about this woman in America is really yours to make. Whatever decision you make, I only hope that you don't regret it.
