An unnamed individual treated herself to the popular spa treatment - which sees tiny fish called Garra Rufa eat away at the dead skin cells on the feet.

But instead of leaving her with a perfect pedicure, she was left with her nails slowly shedding off six months later.

Dr Shari R. Lipner, assistant professor of dermatology at Weill Cornell Medicine, said: "I think that this is probably more common than we think."

Although Lipner confirmed that there has been no other similar medical cases linked to the beauty trend, she is "fairly sure" that it was the fish pedicure that caused the woman's nails to separate from her toes.

"I think we can pretty definitively say that getting a fish pedicure is probably not the way to go to treat skin and nail conditions," she said.

So-called Barbie feet has emerged as the latest Instagram trend.

In recent times, it's been noted that an increasing number of people on the photo-sharing website - including celebrities such as Bella Hadid and Kourtney Kardashian - have started to lift one of their heels off the ground while posing for a snap, Mirror Online reports.

The theory is that by changing the angle of the foot, the individual succeeds in making their legs look more well defined and, in turn, more attractive.

Unsurprisingly, the trend has been copied by a huge number of non-celebrities, who are keen to emulate their heroes.

A man has paid a parking ticket fine 44 years after he first received it. Police in Pennsylvania confirmed that they received $5 along with a handwritten note from a man - only known as Dave - confessing that he hadn't paid a fine of $2 for parking in a restricted zone in 1972.

The man appeared to feel remorseful for his actions as his return address read: "Feeling guilty, Wayward Road, Anytown, Ca."

Police Chief Michael Combs joked: "He paid his fine. So that's 44 years later, so that means I only made $3 in 44 years."

He added: "We do appreciate that this individual paid their ticket, and again, we encourage other individuals, if you have an outstanding ticket, please pay them."

A giant balloon of Donald Trump wearing a nappy is set to fly across Parliament during the American president's visit tomorrow.

It comes after Mayor of London Sadiq Khan approved a petition and a crowdfunding campaign which raised more than PS16,000 to get the six-metre inflatable - named the Trump Baby - in the air.

Speaking to Sky News, Leo Murray - one of the activists behind the campaign - said: "We didn't get off to the best start with the mayor's office over this, who originally told us that they didn't recognise Trump Baby as legitimate protest.

"But following a huge groundswell of public support for our plan, it looks like City Hall has rediscovered its sense of humour. Trump Baby will fly!"

A spokesperson for the Mayor of London added: "The mayor supports the right to peaceful protest and understands that this can take many different forms."
