Prince William has praised the England football squad on their "incredible" performance in this year's World Cup after they were knocked out of the tournament on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old royal congratulated the sportsmen on making history and giving "us fans something to believe in."

Taking to the official Kensington Palace Twitter account after the semi-final against Croatia, William said: "I know how disappointed @england must feel right now but I couldn't be more proud of this team and you should hold your heads high. You've had an incredible #World Cup, made history, and gave us fans something to believe in. We know there is more to come from this @england team."

The 36-year-old royal was forced to turn her back on her acting career when she got engaged to her now-husband Prince Harry last year.

Although she's clearly enjoying being a member of the royal family, she has admitted she feels sad about the fact she had to give up her role as Rachel Zane in the American legal drama.

During a walkabout with Harry in Dublin on Wednesday, the brunette beauty who was known as Meghan Markle before she got married spoke to members of the public and revealed to fans that she misses starring in the show.

But, although she's no longer on screen, Markle has remained close with her former co-stars and even invited them to her wedding at Windsor Castle on May 19.

Sarah Rafferty who plays Donna Paulsen in the drama said: "It was a wonderful moment to get to see [Meghan] on that day and in that moment. It was special."

A fight broke out at Jimmy Kimmel's daughter's fourth birthday party at the weekend.

The 50-year-old television host pulled out all the stops to ensure his little girl Jane, whom he has with his wife Molly McNearney, had the best bash last week but he has admitted the festivities descended into chaos after the dog-themed pinata came out.

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he said: "It was a terrible pinata, it wasn't even shaped like anything, just a rectangle with four dogs on it, one of which was Chase, that's her favourite dog.

"Finally, they crack this thing open, and the candy comes out, and they all dive in and fight each other for it. It's horrible. It's like Black Friday for kids."

He continued: "My wife notices Jane staring at what remains of this pinata that has been assaulted and beaten to a pulp by dozens of crazed, stick-wielding children ... and Jane looks at it, and says to no one in particular, 'I can't believe we beat up Chase'."
