Cat elected as mayor

A town in Michigan has elected a cat as its mayor.

More than 7,000 people voted in the election which saw furry friend Sweet Tart inaugurated after beating another feline, a goat, a peacock, a chicken and 13 dogs to the position.

The mayoral election is run every three years by the Omena Historical Society, which charges residents $1 to vote in an effort to raise money for the community's activities.

Speaking on how Sweet Tart will be able to fulfil her duties despite being a cat, Keith Disselkoen the president of the historical society told KXAN: "They have their paw. We accept paw prints. Legal documents can be executed with a paw print."

A previous post on the nine-year-old cat's official election profile read: "I represent the best of Leelanau County with the Sweet and Tart cherries.

"I have had experience with governing/supervising my household. And having been Vice Mayor for three years, fulfilling all my expected duties, I know I could handle the Mayor position. (sic)"

Cops could fine people for Keke challenge

A former Florida police officer has warned people living in the state that the viral 'In My Feelings' challenge could earn them a fine of over $1,000.

Steve Monitero is attempting to put a stop to the social media craze also known as the Keke challenge which has seen thousands of people jumping out of moving cars to dance to Drake's new hit song.

Speaking to WKMG-TV, he said: "It seems every time we look at our phones or turn on the TV there is some new viral sensation sweeping our country, and recently, the Keke challenge has come about, but someone needs to put Keke to bed.

"This is not only the dumbest thing I have ever seen on the Internet, but you are intentionally putting yourself and others at risk."

Monitero went on to explain how attempting the challenge could lead to a number of fines, such as careless driving, impeding the flow of traffic and not wearing a seat belt which could total up to over $1,000.

He said: "After watching several of these viral videos, I started to tally the different violations that I observed."

The current traffic safety expert added: "Driving is one of the most dangerous things that we will do in our entire lifetime, and I doubt Drake was imagining people dancing outside their moving cars while writing his song in the studio."

Childbirth ages women Study

Women age by up to two years for each baby they give birth to, according to new research.

Researchers claim cell changes in pregnant women may have long-lasting negative effects, and that each child a woman has could slash the mother's life-expectancy.

These cell changes could have overall negative effects on the woman's health, it was found.

The US study looked at 821 women ranging from 20 to 22 who had up to five kids.

The research discovered that every time a mother gives birth her cellular age is increased by six months to two years.

While pregnancy can take years from a woman's life when she is carrying the child, her cells look temporarily younger, giving a youthful pregnancy glow.

The study leader, Calen Ryan, from Northwestern University in Chicago, admitted he was not surprised with the amount of ageing the research showed.

He is quoted by The Sun newspaper as saying: "The markers independently predict mortality and both have appeared in women who have had more pregnancies."

"Even accounting for other factors that affect cell ageing, pregnancy numbers still came top."

Mom claims spicy chips made daughter sick

A woman from Memphis has blamed the removal of her daughter's gallbladder on Hot Cheetos and Takis.

Rene Craighead's teenage daughter was rushed to hospital for an emergency operation following stomach pains, which she alleges is down to her snacking on the popular American crisps every day.

Speaking to WREG, she explained: "When my daughter had to have this surgery, I knew I had to tell everybody about it.

"Every time I got out she says, 'Bring me back some Hot Takis, bring me back some Hot Chips.'

"I want to make her happy, so I brought them back."

The spicy snacks caused a health scare in 2012 when a number of parents rushed their children to hospital because they began noticing that their faeces were turning red.

However, there's been no evidence to prove a direct link between eating the junk food and developing serious health problems.

Frito-Lay the manufacturers of Hot Cheetos have also hit back at the claims, saying in statement that food safety is their "number one priority".

They added: "Some consumers may be more sensitive to spicy foods than others and may choose to avoid spicier snacks due to personal preference."
