Fewer taboos in the bedroom

April 04, 2017

For a very long time, Jamaicans have always been very clear about what is allowed when it comes to sex; and we were equally clear about what was not.

If we refer to dancehall, we can hear the evidence of what gets a straight 'bun out'. However, in the age of Internet porn, erotica, and movies like 50 Shades of Grey, it seems like much of the things that would get

persons thrown out of bars for even mentioning them in the past are not only commonplace, but they are now considered by some persons to be required behaviour.

So, what are some of the things that are not so taboo anymore?

Oral Sex

This is perhaps the most drastic turnaround when it comes to taboo acts because for much of dancehall's history, oral sex 'Bowing', 'Eating under the table', 'Head'. Gone are the days when song lyrics would 'bun out' women performing fellatio. Now we hear several songs talking about how great being on the receiving end of oral sex is. Vybz Kartel was probably the one of the most vocal artistes who expressed the pleasure that he gets from receiving oral sex especially in his "freaky gal" songs.

Bondage BDSM

Once upon a time, beating was reserved for punishment for disobedient children. However, with the success of 50 Shades of Grey, it's easy to understand how bondage has gotten the attention of a lot of people, so much so that the sale of bondage paraphernalia has increased, and more erotic books and movies are also showing good sales.

Orgies

It's clear that Jamaicans have become more sexually adventurous on several levels. There have been several reports of orgy parties happening at various venues, but beyond that, individuals are arranging their own exploits among like-minded friends.

The typical Jamaican man will concede that it's a personal fantasy to have sex with more than one woman at a time, and many of them are making this fantasy come true.

Female masturbation

When it comes to masturbation, it was always understood that men do it. However, the idea of a women taking pleasure into her own hands is not only taboo, but it's considered by some persons to be downright nasty.

This point of view has not only been challenged by many women, including me, it's dismissed completely. The fact is that women who masturbate are more sexually confident, and, therefore, arebetter able to enjoy sex and please their partner.

Over the past three decades, society has seen much transformation on several levels from technology to lifestyle, and sexuality is no different. As we learn more about our bodies and as more of us become exposed to sexual options, there will be further adjustments.

At the end of the day, sex is a personal choice, and individuals will always do what works for them.

Remember, communication is important to the success of every relationship, so ensure that all the partners are on the same page.

Good luck, be safe and have fun.
