Keeping his eye on the prize - Dalton makes the Final Three
For Saturday night's semi-finals, Dalton Harris delivered a scintillating performance of a soulful rendition of the classic jazz song Feeling Good. Now, the young singer has made it to the final three.
For the past six weeks of live shows, Harris has glided through the UK's X Factor cementing his status as a favourite to win.
Though Dalton's supporters are numerous and some were seen enthusiastically waving Jamaican flags in the studio audience, there is still one who has carried a torch for the young talent for almost a decade but until now has never been present at any of the live shows.
Local music producer Donovan Germain is heralded as a saving grace the one who stepped in for Harris when times were hardest. Throughout the competition, Germain has remained in the shadows, as a promise to Harris.
However, there are now plans to celebrate alongside the Rising Stars alum, as his impressive run on the British singing competition comes to a close. "When I dropped him off at the airport to go to London for X Factor, I told him that I'm not coming until he makes it to the final. That was the agreement. He kept his part of the bargain. Now, it's my turn," an elated Germain told The STAR yesterday, after Harris was announced for the final three.
Eye on the Prize
"Dalton is just another example, that sometimes young people just need a chance," said Germain, who has been supporting Harris all the way. In constant contact with the 24-year old, Germain said in every conversation he told Harris: "Be focused. Keep your eye on the prize. Obstacles are the things you see when you take your eyes off the prize."
Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia 'Babsy' Grange is not surprised by this week's results. Celebrating Harris's achievement, she told The Star: "I am very happy. I'm very elated, and I would be surprised if he does not win. He is fantastic, an excellent talent," Grange said. "We all should pray for Dalton, that he comes out victorious."
