Fashion and style take over Junction
Travis Mendez and Sherice Dixon won the Junction, St Elizabeth, leg of the Campari Pop Style competition last Saturday after being declared the most stylish male and female in attendance.
Mendez and Dixon took home a cash prize of $100,000 each and booked automatic spots in the grand finals, where they each have a shot at winning the $250,000 grand prize.
Mendez rocked a custom hand-sewn Blazer with a XXXL sized suitcase zipper, as well as a release plastic black buckle for extra support. The pants were bleached at the knees; accompanied by a nylon belt attached in the shape of an X.
His leg harness was designed with neon orange safety reflectors and a silver thigh pouch with black plastic release straps. The look was topped off with a scarf wrapped around his head in the style of a turban, and a pair of gothic clear lens glasses alongside a silver alloy kit.
Dixon wore a catwoman influenced get-up, made from holographic laser leather, leather-like spandex, and scuba and iridescent rhinestones.
As far as crowd favourites, Dixon was almost tied with Camargo Smith, who landed the number two spot.
Smith who sported a black oversized Organza sleeved-blouse, paired with an orange jumpsuit, flaunting cutouts on the sides, won cheers and roars from the hyped crowd the moment she stepped on stage. So much so that host Miss Kitty had to ask the crowd to cheer on three more occasions to decide who invoked the loudest roars from the audience.
The event, which was free and open to the public, saw partygoers showing up in a variety of outfits which reflected true pop style fashion as they spanned varying influences.
Complementing the array of stylish individuals in the crowd were the resident judge Fashion Barber, arguably Jamaica's most stylish barber, accompanied by the energetic dancer, Desha Ravers, and fashionista Shanice 'Shanzi' Allen.
The trio were joined by Tzan Bent, who joined the panel as a guest judge from her home base in St Elizabeth.
The 2019 staging of Campari Pop Style will see two more stops in the series, culminating with the grand finale in Kingston, slated for November 30. The next stop will be at Rudolph Elder Park in St Thomas on Saturday, October 26.
