DJ Mackwan aims to be an ace DJ
Jonathan McKenzie, better known as DJ Mackwan, is on a path to music superstardom with his bold and fresh take as the remix DJ.
He said, "When I am playing I incorporate a lot of remixes and try to use music to tell a story. As a result of that I spend a lot of time thinking about creative ideas for my sets. I love to manipulate sounds to create new sound effects, scratching and remixes to create short compositions when I am playing. I aim to be as creative as I can, so I can get the wow effect from my audience."
DJ Mackwan has played at various local events, including parties and corporate events, and has even played in Brooklyn, New York, and Alaska.
Though fairly new to the scene, the Edna Manley College student's aim is to work on becoming a household name by ultimately connecting with his audience by offering something fresh and different.
"My job as a DJ is to elevate the energy of my audience by any means necessary. I think the major influence I have is to change the mood of individuals in a positive way, and that is always my aim."
Dutch Money drops new single
Dancehall artiste Dutch Money is a force to be reckoned with, if his latest single One Pot is anything to by.
"The new song is simply about being real and remembering where you're coming from," he said.
The track and its video were officially released in March and April, respectively, receiving impressive feedback. The track is also receiving tremendous radio support.
In the business for the past 10 years, the Yallahs, St Thomas, native has honed a style that has made his music efforts seamless.
"My creative process is fairly easy; it's just being in the studio with my manager EQ the Mastermind and formulating musical magic. Or it can simply be hearing a decent riddim then I'll just pen lyrics in a matter of minutes," he explained.
His catalogue over the years has included songs such as Love My Enemies, Win, Addiction and Do Road featuring Chronic Law.
"My ability to write songs easily and being able to successfully make the transition from a hip-hop artiste to a dancehall artiste makes me a standout artiste. You'll hear nothing but versatility," Dutch Money said.
An EP is expected in the coming months, along with more features.
Skystar living the 'top life'

"Whether you're a vendor on the street side, a nine-to-five worker, dancing on the poles, partying like a rock star, any achievement you make is what top life is about."
Released on March 26 and already amassing close nearly 50,000 views, the accompanying music video was directed by Connor McDavid of KOH Visuals.
Currently based in Edmonton in Alberta, Canada, the Kingston-born musician has been writing music since age 13.
