Dr KJ prescribes music to lift the spirit
Having been awarded PhDs in humanitarian services and clinical psychology, Dr Kevin J Waite aka Dr KJ, believes that music is one of the best prescriptions for a happy life.
Filled with a strong desire to spread the gospel in music form, he has teamed up with gospel deejay Prodigal Son and producer Danny H. Browne in his latest release, I Am Not Leaving.
"The inspiration came about after l was encouraged by Prodigal Son to use my many experiences of unfortunate situations to help others go through their storms," Dr KJ said.
Officially released on January 11, the artiste is already receiving "awesome" responses, including testimonials. Persons have been singing the song, recording it, and sending it to him, and some of these have been shared on his personal social media pages.
Love affair with music
Dr KJ said his love affair with music began at age 10 when he attended a church rally with his father. He said he felt the urge to sing for his church, and with his pastor being the MC, he asked if he could sing a song.
Request granted, he took the stage and ministered in song. He joked that it was the most ice cream he had ever eaten.
During his high school years at Frome Technical High School in Westmoreland, he joined the Soul 4 Soul a capella group, where his love of music was strengthened.
The group entered the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission's Gospel Song competition in 1999, making it in the top 10. Three years later, Dr KJ also made it in the top 10 with a solo piece.
"I have been a praise and worship leader for the church l attend and continue to minister through music today. The musical calling has been on my life, and as such, I am not able to escape this ministry," Dr KJ.
He is currently working on two projects, both of which are slated to be released very soon.
