Downsound Records highlights emerging talent on new project

Since its inception in the 1990s, Downsound Records (DSR) has consistently sought to highlight emerging talent on its projects over the years.

Among the acts that the label has brought from obscurity to fame are Nanko, I-Maroon, Fantan Mojah and Jah Cure.

The label continues its thrust in highlighting newcomers with the 12-track project, Storm Trooper rhythm. Released on February 26, this is the first rhythm project for the label in five years.

"In this period of uncertainty, which is the new normal, we threw out this rhythm and put some focus and emphasis behind some new talent. We look forward to seeing how they develop and the response they get," said Downsound CEO Josef Bogdanovich.

Young acts featured on the Storm Trooper rhythm include D'Yani, with his single Birthday and Montego Bay-based Sliq One with Red Label. Veterans have also released tracks on the rhythm including Harry Toddler ( Bottles), Ce'Cile ( Your Night), and Munga Honorable ( Expensive). Current dancehall high-flyer IWaata also delivers Stick a Bet.

Early support to the project from selectors including Boom Boom and Harry Hype has resulted in songs by the young acts as well as a few of the songs by the established acts gaining traction within the dancehall space.
