Sevana for court today
A judge will decide today if the fatal road accident case involving reggae singer Sevana will go to trial.
Sevana, whose given name is Anna Blake, is scheduled to appear in the Westmoreland Parish Court this morning, at which time a decision will be taken on whether or not the case will be tried in the circuit court. The last preliminary hearing took place on December 3, 2021.
Sevana's lawyer, Yushaine Morgan, confirmed to THE STAR that today is decision day and he is prepared. "It just has to go through the process," Morgan said.
When asked how Sevana was coping, knowing that she could stand trial for the May 25, 2021 accident in which one person succumbed to her injuries in hospital, he stressed, "My client is doing well."
The 30-year-old singer is charged with causing death by dangerous driving, following an accident last year. The police report that she was travelling along the Scott Cove main road in Whitehouse, Westmoreland, when the Honda City motor car she was driving collided with a Honda Fit going in the opposite direction. The passenger in the Honda Fit, Ordia Cordiel, sustained severe injuries and was admitted to the Black River Hospital. Cordiel died on May 30. Sevana was charged by the police on June 1 and has so far made three appearances in court.
Morgan had noted earlier that Sevana is free to go about her business of entertainment and performing at concerts.
Sevana released her sophomore EP, Be Somebody, in 2020 after she signed a record deal with In.Digg.Nation Collective, the record label owned by Grammy-nominated reggae artiste Protoje. She is known for the song Mango, in which she compares the love she feels for her significant with her love for the fruit. As a testament to its popularity, the music video hit the million views mark on YouTube three weeks after its release.
Sevana was seen on social media recently in celebration mode that Mango was used in the TV show Big Sky (ABC) "a twisty crime drama [that] follows two private detectives as they solve crimes in the small town of Big Sky, Montana". She shared the clip from the show in which Mango is heard playing and the main female character is seen dancing to it.
The series, which is based on The Highway series of books by C.J. Box, stars Katheryn Winnick and Kylie Bunbury.
