Man who damaged ex-girlfriend's eye with stone granted bail
A young man accused of blinding his ex-girlfriend in one eye, by hitting her with a stone, was granted bail set at $100,000 when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm is 22-year-old Leon Delisser.
It is alleged that, on September 30, the complainant was walking along the road when she was attacked by Delisser, who threw a stone which caught her in the eye, damaging it. She reportedly spent seven days in hospital.
In court, the complainant explained that she could not see from the damaged eye.
When asked to explain his actions, Delisser said, "Me and her did a war, and the crowd come down pan me, so me fling the stone fi calm dem down. Me neva really flng it fi lick her."
Senior RM Judith Pusey said, "Stones don't have eyes, you know." She later granted the accused bail.
He is to return to court on January 28 as the medical report is outstanding.
