Man on the run after allegedly killing girlfriend
A Portland man is on the run after he allegedly killed his girlfriend at Union in Hope Bay Monday evening. The man, Lidley Samuels of a Toms Hope address in the Rio Grande Valley, is being sought by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) in connection with the killing of 51-year-old Joan Patterson Fitzgerald.
According to the police, one of the woman's sons, who had gone to visit her, stumbled upon the lifeless body of his mother on the floor with blood oozing from the head.
The police were called in, and upon their arrival, they observed a wound to the head, which was probably made by a blunt instrument.
Police reports are that the two were involved in a rocky relationship, but that the woman decided she was no longer interested in having an affair. This, the police said, did not go down well with Samuels, who reportedly issued death threats to the woman.
The son, who told investigators that he was concerned for his mothers safety because he was fearful that the man would make good on his threats, decided to visit her shortly after 8:30 p.m. Monday. But upon entering the house, after getting no response to his calling, he found his mother on the floor.
The woman was pronounced dead by a doctor.
In the meantime, the police are asking anyone knowing the whereabouts of Samuels to contact them immediately.
