Alleged murderer seeks legal aid attorney
Hope Bay, Portland:
A legal aid attorney is being sought for a Portland man, who turned himself in to the police on Wednesday, after he allegedly murdered his female friend.
Lidley Samuels of a Toms Hope address in the Rio Grande Valley was scheduled to undergo a question and answer interview on Thursday with detectives from the Criminal Investigative Branch (CIB) in Port Antonio, but he told investigators that he was unable to afford an attorney.
Samuels was on the run for two days, but surrendered to the police. He was accompanied by a family member, who told investigators that Samuels was confused by incident and was contemplating suicide.
On Monday, one of the woman's son, who had gone to visit her, found her body lying on the floor at her house shortly after 8:30 p.m.
The police were called in, and they later observed a wound to the head.
Reports are that the two were involved in a rocky relationship and the woman decided to end the relationship. This, however, did not go down well with Samuels who allegedly issued death threats to the woman.
