Senior citizen gunned down

An elderly man in Hanover is among the latest victims of the gun violence sweeping western Jamaica. He was shot and killed by unknown assailants at his home on Saturday night.

The dead man has been identified as Clarence Somers, who was in his late 70s, and was of a Greenland address in the parish.

Reports are that at approximately 8 p.m. on Saturday, residents heard explosions in the community and summoned the police. On arrival of the lawmen, Somers was found suffering from gunshot wounds. He was subsequently taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Lucea police are yet to establish a motive for the killing.
