Port Antonio, Portland:

Tragedy struck at the Errol Flynn mega yacht marina in Port Antonio yesterday when a foreign national fell from a pole aboard a vessel and reportedly crashed through its deck.

The deceased, 16-year-old Bethany Smith, is said to be a British national and a crew member.

Commanding officer in charge of the Portland division, Rex Swearing, said that the incident took place round about 2:50 p.m. yesterday when the female was reportedly carrying out her duties.

"I can confirm that she has succumbed to her injuries. Crew members are in a sombre mood, and we are now in the process of contacting the relevant persons to inform them of this unfortunate incident," he said.

Following what many are alleging to be a 30-feet fall, the woman was rushed to the Port Antonio Hospital where she was pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
