Policeman held for armed robbery
A member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is now in custody after he was identified as one of three men who were involved in an armed robbery in Portland on Monday.
It is alleged that the cop, who is said to be attached to the St Thomas Police Division, robbed a businesswoman of approximately $700,000.
According to reports, after closing her establishment in the community of Fort in Manchioneal, Portland, at about 4 a.m. on Monday, the businesswoman, along with three persons, drove to her house.
However, it is reported that when they arrived at the woman's home, they were surprised by three armed men who assaulted, threatened and then robbed them of the large sum of cash, before making their escape into nearby bushes.
A report was made to the police, and investigations led to the arrest of a man, who was 'pointed out' as being one of the culprits.
While being questioned by detectives attached to the Port Antonio Criminal Investigative Branch, it was discovered that the man was a constable.
