‘I can’t remember him being angry’ - Brothers remember slain Member of Parliament
Family members of Dr Lynvale Bloomfield say they are struggling to find a reason anyone would hurt their beloved sibling. Bloomfield, who was serving his second term as member of parliament for East Portland, was found dead in his Passley Gardens, Portland, home on Saturday morning.
Bloomfield’s nude body was found by his helper, who saw the door to the house open when she arrived for work. Eyewitnesses say that there was a trail of dried blood from the bathroom to the bedroom where Bloomfield’s body was found.
Ralvin Bloomfield, one of Bloomfield’s 11 brothers, said he was so gentle, he would not hurt anyone.
“Right now I am dazed. I cannot think of any reason why anybody would want to kill ‘ Lini’. He was not born with a temper so he couldn’t lose one. I can’t remember him being angry or involved in a fight. Lini would rather give up his right and walk away,” Ralvin, 79, told THE STAR at his Duanvale, Trelawny, home yesterday.
“Lini was a gentle boy from school days into adulthood. He was kind and loved his family,” he added.
Another brother, Bancroft, 74, agreed that Lynvale, 59, was so calm, he would never harm anyone.
Ralvin said he Lynvale was once married, but that union ended in divorce. The brothers say Lynvale visited Duanvale regularly, and was always present at the family’s Boxing Day reunions.
“He came with just a bodyguard,” Ralvin said, adding that his brother was a loner.
Bancroft quipped: “On one occasion I said to him, since you have no wife nor child, why not adopt me so you can spend some of your money on me?”
A Cuba-trained medical doctor, Lynvale was born to Uriel and Ionie Bloomfield in a very large family. In addition to his 11 brothers, he had six sisters.
Vernon Davis, who was in the class ahead of Lynvale at Duanvale Primary, said that he was a lover of track and field.
“He represented Duanvale at tracks before doing the same at Cornwall College, where he went for high school. I struggle to find a reason why he should be killed like that,” his childhood friend said.
