Hanover mother wants justice for daughter killed in crash two years ago
Nesandra Ellis, a 34-year-old customer service representative who resides in Montpellier district in Sandy Bay, Hanover, feels that it is full time that she gets justice for her 11-year-old daughter who died after being hit by a motorist in her community on November 24, 2017.
"I want justice for my dead child. I think I have suffered enough with the memories of my daughter who was taken away from me," she said.
Ellis's daughter, Cralisa Shante Rankin, wanted to be a nurse one day.
"Shante was a loving, kind and jovial child who wanted to be a nurse when she grew older. She would always pretend to be a nurse and always wanted to help anyone that was ill in our family," the mother said.
Ellis' world was turned upside down when her daughter was struck by a vehicle in the community. "I remember everything clearly, as if it was today," she said.
"I sent Shante to pick up market items from her aunt. I was told by eyewitnesses that while she was at her aunt's shop waiting on a drive to come back home, she was run over by a vehicle driven by a male member of the community."
Shante died on November 30, six days after the accident. The post mortem showed that she had died from the injuries she sustained in the accident.
The driver of the vehicle has not been charged as the police said to be awaiting an examination report.
Ellis said she is yet to be informed about the steps being taken to have the matter aired in court.
