19 guns go missing from security company

Detectives attached to the Montego Bay Police Station in St James have launched an investigation into the theft of 19 firearms and ammunition which were stolen from a popular security company in the Second City a few days ago.

Investigators say the incident took place between 12 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, and 6 p.m. on Friday, May 24, at the security office in Ironshore, Montego Bay.

A senior officer told THE STAR that the matter is being investigated.

“And as far as I know, the matter is been treated as a case of larceny,” the cop said.

Reports are that about noon last Thursday, an employee of the security company filed a report that he had securely locked the office and left the compound.

Upon his return about 6 p.m. last Friday, he discovered that several padlocks used to lock the grilles and doors, both on the inside and the outside of the building, were cut away. Further investigations revealed that the metal safe containing the company firearms was forced open.

It was discovered that the robbers made off with four shotguns, fifteen .38 revolvers, and an undetermined number of 12-gauge and .38 rounds of ammunition.

The robbers also stole three motorcycles, two desktop computers and the recording device attached to the CCTV system.

Head of the police’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), Assistant Superintendent Dahlia Garrick, told THE STAR that the police are aware of the incident, which is presently under investigation.
