House falls on to highway
A 42-year-old man who resides in Haddo, Westmoreland, is now nursing injuries at hospital after his family house collapsed and fell into a section of the Mackfield to Ferris roadway.
The homeowner, 68-year-old Joan Barrett, a domestic helper, who is also the mother of the injured man, is thankful that her son is still alive.
"Mi wake up Friday morning and a get ready fi go a Sav (Savanna-la-Mar), but as mi come out a the house mi look down and notice seh the entire ground weh the man deh a work crack open," Barrett stated.
"Mi call mi son and show him, but all him seh was that him can't do nothing 'bout it. Anyway, mi lef the yard, still wid the crack deh pon mi mind, and as soon as mi reach Sav, only fi hear people a call mi phone and a tell mi seh mi house collapse wid mi son," she added.

Her son, Julien Sanderson, who was seated in the yard, was hurt during the landslide.
Barrett said that her two-apartment board house and all her belongings ended in the road.
"Right now wi want some justice because from the house tear down, nobody don't even come talk to wi," she said.
"The man dem who a build the road cut it too close to the house so the ground crack, and just give way underneath the house. Right now, mi haffi deh cotch a mi daughter house inna Hanover, and mi son after him come from hospital, him a guh cotch wid one a him sister."
Several residents living in Haddo and other adjoining communities told The WESTERN STAR that they are in fear of their house collapsing on to the roadway because of the construction that is taking place.
Barrett said she has been living at the spot since 1995 and she does not have cash to go and build another house.
