Guardsman Armoured said that it is working with the Jamaica Constabulary Force as investigations commence into how one of its units caught fire yesterday afternoon.

In a release sent to the media last night, the management of the company said that at 3:30 p.m., they were informed that a unit in the fleet was disabled in the area of Long Hill in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

"We can report that none of our team members, or any road users were hurt in the incident. We are, however, sincerely sorry for any inconvenience caused to the users of the corridor," a part of the statement read.

The company also said that it coordinated with the Jamaica Fire Brigade to assure the safety of all.

"The staff assigned to the disabled unit, and the valuables they were transporting were safely transferred to another armoured vehicle, as is within standard operating procedure," the company said.

The roadway was cleared, allowing free flow of traffic.

Guardsman Armoured stressed that it "follows a rigorous maintenance schedule and all units are equipped with fire safety equipment".

In the statement, the company also thanked the fire services "for their quick response and are grateful that all are safe".
