China and the Caribbean to deepen partnership

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, May. 13, CMC – The government of China says that it is moving towards deepening the partnership with governments across the Caribbean “based on the principles of mutual respect and equality and for mutual benefit and common development.

This was one of the outcomes of a special Vice-Ministerial meeting, held recently, between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of China and the Caribbean Countries Having Diplomatic Relations With China on COVID-19.

The meeting that was held via video conference was chaired by China’s  Vice Foreign Minister Zheng Zeguang and Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations Kenneth Darroux from Dominica.

The Caribbean countries represented at the meeting were Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Grenada,  Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname and  Trinidad and Tobago.

According to a joint communique, both sides acknowledged the enormity of the threat posed by COVID-19 to lives and livelihoods as well as the resulting deleterious social and economic impacts in China, the Caribbean countries and across the world.
