‘She was a people person’ - Businesswoman’s murder shocks community
Residents of Williamsfield in Manchester are still puzzled as to why entrepreneur 47-year-old Wendy Harrison was murdered on Monday.
Harrison, who was shot and killed Monday afternoon in her bar in the community by a gunman, is said to have been one of the most caring, ambitious and jovial persons in the community.
According to those closest to her, Harrison was not only selfless but she worked hard to establish herself and help fund her only child through medical school.
"I have known her my entire life. She was like my second mother. Everybody loved her and though she was laid back, she was a people person. To tell you the truth, I can't believe what happened ... I can't come to terms with her death," said John*. He said the community has been left in a state of shock and confusion since the incident.
"She wasn't a troublemaker. I don't know of her having any issue with anybody like that for anybody to want to do this to her. I am one of the first persons she would call if she was having any issue up by the house and nothing like that happened," he said.
Harrison operated a bar next to her house for the past 10 years and according to John, she found pleasure in hosting events to celebrate the milestones of her friends and customers.
"Those were the things she loved to do. She nuh even go out more than so. All she go out to do is buy goods for her business. She always deh in a her business or home taking care of her little grand baby," he said. "It is just sad what happened. We just haffi try and get through this."
The Manchester police say they have not yet established a motive for the killing but are requesting that persons with information about the incident come forward.
