Man shot dead close to hospital
Dwayne Black, a 38-year-old businessman, was shot and killed yesterday morning at the intersection of Luke Lane and North Street in downtown Kingston.
"Di only thing mi hear after mi pick him up was two loud groans and him just gone after that," said his brother Omar. He told THE WEEKEND STAR that Black, a father of two, was well respected and operated a makeshift car park on Luke Lane, located directly across from the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH).
"I cyah tell yuh weh dis a come from. Me and him par every day, wi out deh every day a par di car dem. From wi a grow a so wi stay, wi grow close. Everybody love and respect him. A dem man deh teach mi fi swim and do everything," he said. "Mi bredda have sense, a him hustling that. A it him use and tek care of him yute dem, who him ever a talk say him affi mek sure say him have sumn fi give them. A years now him out deh a park car, and mi no know of him and no man ina war."
According to the police's Corporate Communications Unit, Black was pounced upon by two men armed with firearms while he sat on a log behind a shop talking to some friends.
Black was shot twice in the upper body before his attackers escaped in a white Toyota Probox motor car that was parked along the roadway. Black was pronounced dead at 11:39 a.m. by a doctor at KPH. One alleged eyewitnesses said that Black was first shot in the stomach, and then shot again at close range.
