Soldier on firearm charge to face court today

A member of the Jamaica Defence Force, who along with his brother, was arrested for a shooting incident in the Top St Toolies community in Manchester last month are set to appear in court today.

Hopeton Chambers, 25, has been charged with wounding with intent and two counts of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. His brother, Anthony Chambers, 25, was charged with one count of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. According to reports , at approximately 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 28, the two men attacked a man at a shop he operates. The police, who were alerted to the incident by residents, took swift action and were able to intercept the men along the main road and seize the firearm.

The police said no motive has yet been established for the incident but investigations are ongoing.
