Romeich begs Jamaicans to get COVID vaccinated

Popular businessman Romeich Major is urging Jamaicans to get vaccinated for the sake of reopening the entertainment industry.

This after Prime Minister Andrew Holness, speaking at a press conference yesterday, said that despite the rising COVID numbers, there will be no further lockdowns. He said that the primary strategy being employed to fight the spread of the novel coronavirus is vaccination.

"Go and get vaccinated, argument done!" the prime minister said. In a post on Major's Instagram page, the entrepreneur urged persons to get vaccinated so all restrictions can be lifted to facilitate the reopening of the entertainment sector.

"Yooo uno do me a favour go get uno vaccine nuh cause me want know if and when uno get uno vaccine place ago open up back so please go!!!!!" the post read.

The entertainment sector closed in March 2020 and since then has seen short windows of reopening, including a one-month period last summer. But after being shutdown again following a spike in the number of positive COVID-19 cases, the sector has remained under strict lock and key.

For four consecutive days, Jamaica has recorded more than 1,100 new cases. Since Thursday, the island's positive cases have grown by 5,489. Some 8,300 cases have been confirmed in the last two weeks. The positivity rate now stands at 48.9 per cent. On the other hand, less than 30 per cent of the population has been vaccinated, with the Ministry of Health and Wellness reporting that 1.23 million doses of vaccines have been administered. Major opined that the lack of movement in the entertainment sector may be having an effect on the country's crime situation.

"Night life feeds a lot. Entertainment feed million. Uno lock it down so man them extra hungry and have no help and them desperate so all crime ago up," the post continued. "So mister prime minister and mister big man officer man!!!! Uno open back entertainment and me bet you crime drop!!!!!"
