A fire at the Oracabessa Primary school, in St Mary that happened last night has forced the suspension of classes for today.

Three board-constructed classrooms, which were separate from the main concrete building, were destroyed, resulting in an estimated $5 million in damage.

A unit from the Ocho Rios Fire Station extinguished the blaze.

More than 600 students and a staff of 32 have been affected by the closure.

It is reported that shortly before 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, fire was seen coming from a section of the building, and the fire department was called.

It remains unclear whether the school will reopen on Friday to accommodate Jamaica Day activities
