Ganja-laced sweets seized in St Mary
Police seized a staggering haul of illegal ganja-infused products from a two-bedroom house in Tower Isle, St Mary, yesterday.
Acting on intelligence, members of the St. Mary Division teamed up with detectives from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) to carry out the targeted operation at approximately 5 a.m. What they uncovered behind closed doors was a treasure trove of ganja-laced edibles.
The seizure included a jaw-dropping 200 cannabis-infused gummies, 17 sugarcane candies labelled 'High Vibe, and several packets of other edible products such as 'Needs' gummies.
Officers also found nine packets and 11 cups of compressed ganja strains, seven saucers containing loose ganja, and bottles of rum spiked with cannabis extracts.
A packet of cannabis-laced 'Island Spice Hot Wing Sauce' and a container of cannabis-infused Tic Tacs were among the unusual finds.
One individual was taken into custody as investigators probe deeper into the origin and intended distribution network of the contraband.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) hailed the success of the operation as another significant strike in their relentless campaign to dismantle the illegal drug trade and safeguard communities islandwide.
"This successful raid underscores the commitment of the Jamaica Constabulary Force to disrupting the illicit drug trade and ensuring the safety and well-being of communities across the island," the police said.
The cops are reminding the public that the sale and distribution of cannabis-infused edibles remain illegal under Jamaican law and pose significant health risks, especially to minors.
