KINGSTOWN, St, Vincent, CMC - A 54-year-old man, who had threatened to kill his mother, has been freed of the charge, after the mother refused to give evidence in the case.

Glenroy Providence pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Magistrate Kaywana Jacobs at the Georgetown Magistrate's Court. He had been arraigned on February 17 on two counts of threatening his mother.

The court heard that on February. 2, in circumstances likely to cause a breach of peace, Providence made use of threatening language to Garnetta Spring, saying "Ah must kill you in a dah f***ing house yah".

He was also charged that on the same date in a public place he repeated the same threat to his mother.

But Providence told the court that his mother was going senile and asked that he stand his own bail.

However, Prosecutor Corlene Samuel had said that Providence was well known to the court and that the threat was not a simple one.

The magistrate had placed Providence on EC$1,000 (One EC dollar=US$0.37 cents) bail with one surety and had ordered that he have no contact with the virtual complainant.

She also had ordered Providence to vacate the premises.

The matter was adjourned to March 24 and further adjourned to April 28. But when the matter was called this week, the prosecution told the court that Spring no longer had an interest in the matter and would not give evidence.

The magistrate dismissed the matter for want of prosecution.
