Security concern at St Andrew Prep, STATIN
Police have confirmed that due to reports of a security issue several emergency personnel have been sent to the St Andrew Preparatory School.
It is unclear whether classes have been disrupted.
The emergency response teams include the police and firefighters, Superintendent Mark Harris, head of the St Andrew Central Police Division, told The STAR on Thursday.
"I am not sure what mobilisation, instruction, or evacuation has started. They are going to report to me in a while," Harris said.
Calls to the school have gone unanswered.
However, there have been reports that parents have been asked to pick up their children.
Harris said the police are also checking reports of a similar security issue at the St Andrew offices of the Statistical Institute of Jamaica, which is located on the same road as the school.
Our news team was informed that staff were evacuated and the roadway was closed.
