Haitian man charged with alleged rape, abduction and holding woman for ransom in St James

A Haitian man has been charged with allegedly abducting a woman and then sexually assaulting her in St James between Wednesday, April 16, and Thursday, April 17.

The police have charged Ezaie Simon of Dame Marie, Haiti with rape, forcible abduction, grievous sexual assault, and assault occasioning

actual bodily harm.

The Montego Bay police report that Simon and other men forcibly took the victim from her relative's house allegedly.

They reportedly brought her to bushes in a nearby community where she was beaten and sexually assaulted by Simon.

He later called the woman's relative and demanded $500,000 for her return.

On Friday April 18, at 8:00 p.m., Simon released the woman.

A report was subsequently made to the police and Simon was arrested on April 25.

He was formally charged on Tuesday, following an identification parade.

His court date is being finalised.
